Bei Maejor Interview (Ballerstatus.Com)
Bei Maejor is a Michigan-bred recording artist who earned his chops over the years as a producer/songwriter, but in recent years, has chosen to step out from behind the curtains and take a shot as a solo artist. So far, so good.
In early 2010, he landed a deal with Jive Records (which has since folded into RCA), and followed with his first mixtape, Upside Down (Download at DatPiff.com). Since then, Bei has released his debut single, "Trouble" featuring Roc Nation signee J. Cole, and is currently hard at work on his solo debut.
We caught up with the young University of Michigan graduate while on a promo run in New York, during which we discussed his buzzing "Trouble" single and what the concept and sound behind it is all about; how he was able to balance his music and academic career; and the animated cartoon got him into music as a young kid.
In part two of our (below), Bei Maejor explains how he got his start with R&B star Trey Songz before learning more about the industry with Ne-Yo's camp; who amazed with the most when he got into the studio with him; what he thinks his strongest talent is; and what's up next in the near future.
